The Four Levels of Membership and Certification Explained

Psalm 41:1-3, Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth; He will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; He will sustain him on his sickbed.

1. Basic Chaplain: There are no religious educational requirements to become a basic chaplain and minister. Basic chaplains and ministers in our opinion are God's people who feel they have been called and who have walked the walk in life and felt their own pain and suffering. Basic chaplains reflect God's Love and Mercy by showing Samaritan type kindness to others at all times. Basic chaplains get involved and reach out to those in need, or some times just lend a sympathetic ear. Becoming a basic chaplain is the first step in starting a ministry of presence. After completing their first year of membership they will be able to renew as registered chaplains in their field of ministry.

2. Registered Chaplain: The educational requirements to become a registered chaplain must also be the requirements of the agency or organization that they are a chaplain with. In many cases a registered chaplain is a chaplain that must show proof each year that they are registered and a member in good standing with the ordaining body that ordained them in order to keep their position. In other words most agencies or organizations today want to know that chaplains are being held accountable to their ordaining body or ministry for there actions, this applies for all chaplains on all levels.

3. Senior Chaplain: To be a senior chaplain the applicant must have training in some type of chaplaincy or ministry with 24 months of experience within that ministry. For an example in order to be a senior chaplain in prison ministry, the applicant must have 24 months experience and have already completed an approved course of study in prison ministry. These requirements will apply to all applicants seeking certifications as senior chaplains. If you feel like you qualify but are not sure, you may speak to a senior staff member and a Chief Chaplain will take your request into consideration. Exceptions if any will be determined by the Chief Chaplains board!

4. Master Chaplains: Only under very special circumstances to be determined by the board of directors may a new member become a master chaplain when they join Chaplain Fellowship Ministries. Master Chaplains are required to have four years experience in their chosen fields of ministry. Master Chaplains must have training and certifications in the follow. Certification in critical incident stress management, Terrorism and Disaster Response, Certification in Complex Family Issues, Certification in Pastoral Crisis Intervention, Certification in Individual Crisis Intervention, Certification in Chemical Dependency Counseling, Certification in Anger Management, certification in death notifications, certification in compassion fatigue, certification in crisis chaplaincy, certification in suicide awareness. Exceptions if any will be determined by the Chief Chaplains board!
